A man’s honour, reputation, pride and dignity lies between the legs of a woman. The dictate of preserving virginity haunts our society. In some Egyptian villages, the relatives of the bride and groom sit outside on the young couples wedding night, waiting to be shown the bloodstains that supposedly prove the bride's purity. Women are to be conquered, or else she is murdered by the male family members in the name of honour which until today is widespread in the Arab region, an act to wash away the shame as her virginity is regarded as family property. And so what happened here? Why does it continue to cost young women their life?
