Assemblage of mixed material
A piece that expresses the artist's relationship with her mother, as a child who was raised with a sense of isolation, likened to a safety pin labeled 'safe,' yet capable of causing hurt and damage. Having been born in a small town to the northwest of Cairo and subsequently growing up in the UK within a household that upheld traditional Egyptian values, she experienced a childhood marked by the brewing of mixed identities, making the quest for acceptance and belonging a struggle. The artist consistently felt conflicted with everything she absorbed in her environment, resulting in a profound sense of impurity and absence.
